Sing Sing Willowbrook: brunch cocktails and a year-round patio
Where: The Courtyard at Willowbrook Shopping Centre, 19705 Fraser Hwy, Unit 540, Langley
When: Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Order: The French omelette with Boursin, and a Maggi Caesar if it's that kind of morning
Sing Sing is a pho, pizza and beer bar, and Willowbrook is its third location after Main Street and Commercial Drive in Vancouver. On weekends the kitchen switches to a brasserie-style brunch. Brasserie is French for brewery, and in France and Belgium it means a relaxed, all-day room where the drinks matter as much as the food. Sing Sing was halfway there already.
The plates lean French: brioche French toast with berries and maple syrup, a soft scramble, steak and eggs, smoked salmon lox on a rock salt bagel, and a classic French omelette rolled soft around herbed Boursin.
The drinks are the main event. The Soju Mimosa mixes seasonally infused soju with citrus and prosecco. The Maggi Caesar starts with a house Caesar mix, then adds soju and Thai basil. There are spirit-free options too, plus espresso, cold brew and iced Vietnamese coffee (cà phê sữa đá). That last one has its own French connection: coffee came to Vietnam with the French in the 1800s, and sweetened condensed milk stood in for fresh.
Who it's for: if you want eggs at 8 a.m., this isn't your spot. If you'd rather sleep in, take a seat on the enclosed, heated patio and let brunch roll into happy hour at 2 p.m., it is.
Find us in the Courtyard at Willowbrook Shopping Centre, off Fraser Highway at 198th Street in Langley. Free parking is available in the Courtyard lot, and we’re a short drive from Langley City, Walnut Grove, Murrayville and Cloverdale.
Coast Langley City Hotel: the big Sunday buffet
Where: 20393 Fraser Hwy, Langley City
When: Sundays; book ahead
Order: Start at the eggs Benny station
Every Sunday the hotel turns its convention ballroom into a brunch buffet with live entertainment. Chefs run an eggs Benedict station (salmon, shrimp, ham or veggie) alongside carving, omelette and waffle stations, and there's sushi and dim sum too. The bar pours Caesars and mimosas, and parking is free, which helps when you're bringing the whole family.
Roadrunner Restaurant: the classic diner breakfast
Where: 20475 62 Ave, Unit 1, Langley
Order: The smoked salmon Benny, or the Philly steak omelette
Roadrunner is a no-fuss diner known for bennies, pancakes and generous portions at easy prices. The burgers and fries are made in house, if someone at the table is already thinking about lunch. It's small and gets busy on weekends, so go early.
Porter's Bistro Coffee & Tea House: breakfast in a heritage general store
Where: 21611 48 Ave, Murrayville
Order: The smoked salmon Benny with sourdough toast
Porter's fills Murrayville's old general store, a heritage building that's been in the Porter family since 1916. Expect homestyle breakfasts, fresh baking and walls crowded with art and curios. It's casual, you may head to the counter for that second cup, and it's the kind of place people linger.
Making a morning of Fort Langley
Fort Langley is about 15 minutes' drive north of Willowbrook and packs more brunch into a few blocks than anywhere else in Langley. Eat, then walk it off at the Fort Langley National Historic Site or along the Fort-to-Fort Trail.
Sabà Café & Bistro
Where: 23343 Mavis Ave, Fort Langley
Order: The braised short rib hash
Sabà is family- and woman-owned, with a European feel, a bakery counter and brunch served all day. The short rib hash and the smoked salmon Benny are the standouts, and the pastry case makes a fine second course. Its Mediterranean sister, Sabà Bistro, is just down the road and takes reservations.
Wendel's Bookstore & Café
Where: 9233 Glover Rd, Fort Langley
Order: The eggs Benny or the breakfast sandwich
Wendel's has been the village's bookstore-café since 1997: half independent bookshop, half kitchen turning out fresh comfort food. Browse while you wait for a table, then take your new book out to the patio. It's a Fort Langley staple, so weekends get busy.
Blacksmith Bakery
Where: 9190 Church St, Fort Langley
Order: A bacon-cheddar croissant and a latte, or the Blacksmith Benedict
This artisan bakery sits on the site of the village's old blacksmith shop, and everything is baked in the open kitchen. The croissants are what it's known for. The patio has heat lamps, so it works well past summer.
Little White House & Co.
Where: 9090 Glover Rd, Fort Langley
Order: Afternoon tea (book ahead), or brunch in the Salon Café
A café and boutique inside a white heritage house, styled after a Parisian salon. Brunch and lunch run alongside a proper afternoon tea, which makes it the pick for birthdays, bridal showers and anyone who likes brunch with a glass of champagne.
